I’m going to make this intro short and sweet because that’s exactly what I was looking for when I was doing research on Europe backpacking. I would say that my own personal travel style is 40% planner/60% ‘we’ll figure it out there’, so I wasn’t exactly looking for a play-by-play itinerary but I was interested in finding average prices and recommended routes. I wanted numbers and places laid out in an easy-to-read chart, which was surprisingly not very easy to find – so, here it is.
For how long did you plan your trip?
I've always had an interest in seeing the world but the idea to backpack Europe came to me in December of 2014. I knew I wanted to travel in the summer, so that gave me around five months to plan it. The first thing I did was set up a savings plan, a budget, and a 'dream list' of all the cities I wanted to go to. After that, it was just a matter of figuring out the details.
When people think of Santorini they think of Oia. The white-washed buildings, the sky-blue roofs, the beautiful ocean view – that’s all Oia. I fell in love with this little northern village when I visited, and when I go back to Santorini this is where I’m headin' for sure! Oia is small and expensive, so I wouldn’t choose to stay here if you’re on a budget, but fear not, the island has a ton of inexpensive public buses running there all day.
